- 40000 BC – Pre-historic rock paintings found in Nanaun, a hamlet in the hinterland of Chanderi.
- 6th Century AD – A Hindu temple constructed during the Gupta Period found in the village of Behti, about 20 kms south east of Chanderi, which was probably a thoroughfare during the Gupta Empire, located on an important trade route.8 – 10th century AD – Gurjara Pratihara rule commences in Boodhi (Old) Chanderi.

- 11th century AD – Kirtipal shifts the capital from Boodhi Chanderi to the present town of Chanderi, epitomized by the magnificent Kirti Durg Fort.
- Late 11th century AD – Decline of Gurjara – Pratihara rule, Chanderi seized by the Kachhawas.
- 13th Century AD – Shamsuddin Altamash, premier of the Delhi Sultanate and Ghiyasuddin Balban, his prime minister attack Chanderi in 1251 AD, defeating the Kachhawa king Chahad Deva, and incorporating Chanderi into the domains of the Delhi Sultanate.
- 14th Century AD – Dilawar Khan Ghori, the governer of Chanderi, asserts his independence from the Delhi Sultanate. He establishes the Malwa Sultanate in 1392 AD and assumes effective control of the region in 1401 AD. Malwa rule continues under his successors till the beginning of 16th century AD.
- Early 16th Century AD – Rana Sangha, the King of Chittor annexes Chanderi and installs his most trusted ally Medini Rai as the ruler of Chanderi.
- 1528 AD – Emperor Babur, the premier of the Mughal Empire takes Chanderi fort and establishes Mughal control over Chanderi. Medini Rai and his troops commit mass – suicide before the onslaught and the women commit jauhar.
- 1605 AD – Jehangir, on behalf of the Mughal Empire, hands over the territory of Chanderi to the Ram Shah Bundela. This heralds the rule of the Bundela dynasty which continues till 1811 AD.
- 1811 – Captian John Baptiste Filose and his forces win the Chanderi fort for Daulat Rao Scindia and Chanderi is incorporated into the domains of the Scindia estates.
- 1844 – Kunwar Mardan Singh, the last Bundela king of Chanderi, restores Bundela rule in Chanderi by seizing it from the Scindias.
- 1857 – Kunwar Mardan Singh allies with Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and takes part in the uprising of 1857.
- 1858 – British forces under Sir Hugh Rose capture the Chanderi fort and return it to the Scindias, marking the end of two and a half centuries of Bundela rule.
- 1947 – The princely state of Gwalior, which includes Chanderi is incorporated into the newly formed state of Madhya Bharat, later reconstituted and named Madhya Pradesh.
